Inside the Blend | Fat Blooms

What Are These White Specks? Understanding Fat Blooms in your Dew Luxe: Cuticle Butter

Ever opened your cuticle butter and noticed small white dots or tiny crystals across the surface? That’s called a fat bloom, a totally normal (and harmless) occurrence in natural products made with raw shea butter and beeswax.

Fat bloom appears when the natural fats in your butter shift or re-crystallize due to temperature changes during storage or shipping. In beeswax- and butter-rich formulas like mine, that sometimes looks like tiny white beads or a slightly rough surface.

The good news? It doesn’t affect the texture once melted, the performance, or the shelf life. Your butter will still melt down smoothly when warmed between your fingers and deliver the same deep nourishment and protection your nails love.

In fact, fat bloom is a sign that your product is made with real, unrefined ingredients — not fillers or synthetic stabilizers that “hide” natural behavior.

Tip: If you’d like to smooth out the texture for a more uniform look, here are a few safe ways to gently remelt the product:

  • Place the tin on a mug or candle warmer for a few minutes

  • Set the container in a shallow dish of warm (not boiling) water

  • Use a double boiler to fully melt the butter, then place it in the fridge to re-solidify smoothly

Just be sure the container stays upright and sealed, and avoid getting water inside the product. Once cooled, your butter will look silky-smooth again, with all the same nourishing and restorative benefits.
